Mountford Counselling and Psychotherapy

A place and time that is just for you

My name is Melissa Willis and I am a qualified counsellor based in Barnstaple. Please read on to find out more information, or contact me today!

About Me

I am Melissa, a fully qualified and insured Integrative Counsellor, and a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I have worked within the Mental Health Sector for over 13 years, 7 of these in the NHS.

I provide a confidential, non-judgmental and caring space supporting you to explore, express and develop your experiences and understand your emotions in a safe and private environment.

These sessions can take place face-to-face in the centre of Barnstaple or as online video calls.

What can Counselling help with?

Talking things through with a friend can be a source of both comfort and relief, however a friend who knows you and your family might just feel too close to talk to. Being able to talk to a trained professional in a confidential and non-judgmental space can feel very safe and provide you with the opportunity to begin to talk about whatever may be troubling you.

Historical Trauma

At Mountford Counselling & Psychotherapy, I recognize the profound

impact of personal historical trauma on an individual's life journey. Personal

historical trauma refers to significant past events or experiences in one's

life that continue to influence their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. These

events could include childhood abuse, neglect, loss of a loved one, or any

other deeply distressing experiences. Such trauma can leave lasting wounds,

affecting one's sense of self-worth, relationships, and overall well-being.

I provide a compassionate and non-judgmental space for

individuals to explore and process these painful experiences. Through

evidence-based therapeutic techniques and a client-centered approach, I work

collaboratively with my clients to unpack the layers of their personal

history, identify coping mechanisms, and facilitate healing and growth. My

goal is to empower individuals to integrate their past experiences into their

present lives in a way that promotes resilience, self-compassion, and a sense

of empowerment.

Testimonials

“I can’t thank Melissa enough for the support she has given me over the last few months.

I felt completely at ease right from our first meeting and can honestly say that I have learned a lot about my own emotions and how to manage them better in the strange and complicated world that we live in.

Talking about how your feelings really helps. If you are unsure about counselling, don’t be because we all need it sometimes!”
